Halloween

 We had a wonderful Halloween this year. My dad (Popi) came up for a quick visit since he happened to be on the west coast for business.

The Bales  hosted their annual Halloween gathering and we spent most of the evening over there hanging out.

All the kids got to go out trick or treating and had a good time, although it was dumping rain outside!!

Sage wanted to be Elsa again this year. Evan was Nemo, which I thought was fitting since he had a cast on his foot, I was the sweetest devil and Brad was Olaf.

Evan did not go out this year since it was raining so hard and he had the cast. But Sage had a great time!!

  

Evan's Broken Foot

We had our first broken bone in our little Fetrow family! Brad and I have never broken a bone, neither has Sage. Evan was the first to fracture a bone while playing a game with Sage.

Prior to it happening, I asked the kids to come into their playroom where we cleaned it up so they could play their spinning game and to prevent anyone from getting hurt.

I sat there watching them with my phone recording their fun game- and I captured them “all falling down” and heard Evan hit the floor hard.

As expected, he started crying. I picked him up to try and calm him and his cries got a little louder. It wasn’t until I put him down to walk that I realized how hurt he was. He nearly fell as he tried to walk away from me. I grabbed him and laid him down on the couch to try and see where his injury was. About 30 minutes laster, he was calm and not in pain. He would not walk at all or stand up for me.

I took him to urgent care where we spent three hours to get x-rays and a splint.  It took a week for us to get in to see a pediatric orthopedic. They said it should heal pretty fast and will only need a cast on for two weeks!!

I was so happy it was only 2 weeks, as we spent a whole week with him crawling everywhere or carrying him! After the cast had been on for about 2 days, we was walking!!

We got the cast off in two weeks and he was walking right away without any hesitation!

We are just happy it was nothing too serious and that it was over and done pretty quickly! I’m sure there will be many more injuries to come  J

Six Years Later- Anniversary Weekend

Brad and I made a deal that we would go somewhere awesome for our five year anniversary, but unfortunately, we couldn’t make it happen that year. So this year, we decided to take another little mini- getaway. We decided to head back to San Juan Island, where we celebrated our first year anniversary! We loved it so much the first year, that we decided to go visit again since it’s been five years!!

We spent our first night in Seattle on the waterfront and just enjoyed walking around exploring Pike Place and the waterfront.

Next morning- we drove to the ferry and went over to San Juan Island- and explored the island again! We stayed at a cute B&B and went out to a fancy dinner! The dinner was absolutely delicious!!! And it was right on the water and we got to watch the ferry’s come and go!

It was the perfect little getaway for us- and gave us a chance to really reflect on the last six years and our cute little family.

Thank you Dad and Deborah for the special night in Seattle and thanks Mom for taking care of the kiddos- even when you were not feeling all that well! We appreciate the opportunity to get away!!

It was such a fun day six years ago- we love to relive that day each year!!! Happy Anniversary to us!!

Sage’s New Teeth

As we all know- Sage’s two front teeth have cavities in them. This has nothing  to do with her and what she has eaten since the day she was born. It actually has something to do with me when I was pregnant with her. Apparently, in utero, children develop their teeth and if there are any complications in pregnancy, the development of their teeth can be affected. While I didn’t have any complications, the dentist strongly believes that is the reason for her baby teeth being sensitive to cavities. We spent a little over a year delaying any procedure to fix her tooth and decided it was time to fix it before it gets worse. According to the x-rays, her nerve in the tooth was starting to form the same shape her decayed tooth was. Chances are, she wouldn’t lose the tooth until she was about 8 years old. We figured it was best to just fix it now.

Even though the procedure was simple, it would have been very difficult for a 4 year old. She would have had to have novocain shots in her mouth which could have been devastating and delayed the procedure even longer. We all thought it was best to put her under to get everything fixed and look for other things in her mouth at that time.

The day had come to go to the hospital and get her teeth fixed. We did our best to not really talk about it but keep it simple that we were going to a doctor to get her “broken” tooth fixed. The hard part for me, was that she couldn’t eat or drink anything that morning.

As with anything that is planned and ready to go- things got changed and delayed. Our appointment got pushed back two hours!!! At least we knew this the night before and made adjustments to her eating and going to bed. That morning, we kept her busy and distracted. Once we were there, we continued to keep her distracted and busy, as once again, we got delayed another hour.

Needless to say, Sage was amazing and just awesome! Every nurse and anesthesiologist was amazing. We got a wonderful man who had kids himself that have been under too- so he knew exactly as a parent how we were feeling.

They gave Sage a little medicine to help calm her which also made her a little silly! It was time and they wheeled her away. She was happy and said goodbye! The procedure took about 40 minutes. It was the part of her waking up that took the longest. She spent a whole hour trying to wake up.

She eventually kind of woke up, was able to drink water and suck on a popsicle. Her voice was rasping from a breathing tube and she had a wet cough. She didn’t get sick at all, but just was extremely tired!!!

She spent most of the day sleeping it off and resting while watching cartoons.

I’m glad we decided to fix it! She looks different, in my opinion and her smile is just a beautiful as it was before!!!

Thanks to my mom who came up and helped us out for the week and taking Evan to and from school!

Pumpkin Patch

We went to the pumpkin patch on the first weekend of October! It was a beautiful and warm day to search out for the perfect pumpkins. The kids enjoyed the hayride and each picking their own pumpkin.
