Brad and I have been spending a lot of time reflecting these past few nights. Mostly talking about what it was like exactly a year ago during this time. We just can’t believe a whole year has gone by. Its funny- we are excited about her turning one, but have a little sadness that she isn’t our tiny little baby anymore. We looked at pictures of her first month of life and look at her now and we are speechless- Sage is a completely different person from when we first met her.
Each and every day, Sage changes- she is more independent, wants to create her own space, wants to teach herself how to do things. We love to- literally- just sit and stare at her and watch what she is doing. Every minute we are captivated by her sweet smile and her excitement about anything! This year has gone by way too fast. I spent most of the day telling Sage and everyone “This time last year, I was doing….” It was SO fun to relive the day she was born :) I couldn’t help it! I wanted to remember each minute!!
Sage had a good day turning One! She got dressed in her cute “Birthday Girl” outfit (Thanks Mom!) and off we went to show the world Sage is One!! First stop was Brad’s office. We hadn’t been able to visit since he got his new job. He wanted to take Sage to lunch at Red Robin (yes, that was his decision, not mine!). Sage was a BIG hit at Brad’s work- everyone came out of their office to see who this little girl was running down the halls screaming with excitement! It was so cute- and she just reveled in the attention. She got many compliments!
At lunch, Sage continued to show her excitement by screaming and clapping. It’s like she knew that it’s a day to celebrate!! We got the table behind us chatting with us and making silly faces at her.
Next stop was to run a few more errands before the party. I’m shocked by the amount of attention Sage got, especially in her “Birthday Girl” shirt. So many people would stop and talk with us and share stories, compliment her and make her giggle. I even had an 18 year old boy (of all people!) tell me that Albertson’s gives a free cake for first year birthdays! So off we went to Albertson’s to see if this is true- and sure enough, we walked out of there with a free birthday cake that read “Happy 1st Birthday Sage!”
This evening we had a house full of people, my grandparents, mom, Brad’s parents and Travis and Tracey for dinner. It was so great to have the family around to celebrate Sage (we were missing Popi!!) We put Sage in her highchair, put a candle in the cake and sang Happy Birthday! She was not too sure about the cake. In fact, she just poked it a few times and was over it. She’ll get the hang of it before tomorrow!
Happy 1st Birthday sweet girl! You have made this year such a magical one- we would do it all over again and not change one thing! You have us all wrapped around your little finger and we are forever in love with you!!
