Sage Turns One!

Update: Ooops, I wrote this Friday night and didn't publish it. But good thing, since I have more pictures to add!

Brad and I have been spending a lot of time reflecting these past few nights. Mostly talking about what it was like exactly a year ago during this time. We just can’t believe a whole year has gone by. Its funny- we are excited about her turning one, but have a little sadness that she isn’t our tiny little baby anymore. We looked at pictures of her first month of life and look at her now and we are speechless- Sage is a completely different person from when we first met her.

Each and every day, Sage changes- she is more independent, wants to create her own space, wants to teach herself how to do things. We love to- literally- just sit and stare at her and watch what she is doing. Every minute we are captivated by her sweet smile and her excitement about anything! This year has gone by way too fast. I spent most of the day telling Sage and everyone “This time last year, I was doing….” It was SO fun to relive the day she was born :) I couldn’t help it! I wanted to remember each minute!!

Sage had a good day turning One! She got dressed in her cute “Birthday Girl” outfit (Thanks Mom!) and off we went to show the world Sage is One!! First stop was Brad’s office. We hadn’t been able to visit since he got his new job. He wanted to take Sage to lunch at Red Robin (yes, that was his decision, not mine!). Sage was a BIG hit at Brad’s work- everyone came out of their office to see who this little girl was running down the halls screaming with excitement! It was so cute- and she just reveled in the attention. She got many compliments!
At lunch, Sage continued to show her excitement by screaming and clapping. It’s like she knew that it’s a day to celebrate!! We got the table behind us chatting with us and making silly faces at her.

Next stop was to run a few more errands before the party. I’m shocked by the amount of attention Sage got, especially in her “Birthday Girl” shirt. So many people would stop and talk with us and share stories, compliment her and make her giggle. I even had an 18 year old boy (of all people!) tell me that Albertson’s gives a free cake for first year birthdays! So off we went to Albertson’s to see if this is true- and sure enough, we walked out of there with a free birthday cake that read “Happy 1st Birthday Sage!”

This evening we had a house full of people, my grandparents, mom, Brad’s parents and Travis and Tracey for dinner. It was so great to have the family around to celebrate Sage (we were missing Popi!!) We put Sage in her highchair, put a candle in the cake and sang Happy Birthday! She was not too sure about the cake. In fact, she just poked it a few times and was over it. She’ll get the hang of it before tomorrow!
Happy 1st Birthday sweet girl! You have made this year such a magical one- we would do it all over again and not change one thing! You have us all wrapped around your little finger and we are forever in love with you!!

Videos of Sage

Here are a couple of videos of Sage that I couldn't help but post.

She does this thing where if you ask her quesitons, she responds with sounds- it DOES sound like she says "Yes" and "No" to our questions. Here is a video that captures it! Awesome!!

Sage's new thing is to "sway" with music. This is demonstrated by her head moving back and forth. It's so funny to watch!

Silly Faces

Sage has a new favorite face to make! She gets the scrunched-up face and breaths rapidly through her nose! It's so stinkin' cute!! We try to do it back to her, but she looks much cuter doing it, rather than us!

Brad's Birthday

I asked Brad what he wanted to do for his birthday this year and he said “be with my girls!” So, that’s just what we did- celebrated his birthday, with just the three of us! At first, we were going to do a nice little dinner at home, but since it’s been so hot, we decided to go out to dinner. We grabbed a delicious burger and then came home for some yummy brownies, beer and presents =) The Bales Family stopped by for a quick visit and enjoyed a birthday beverage with Brad!

It was the perfect way to celebrate Brad! We are beyond blessed to have you in our lives! You are the best husband and father and we love you more than you know!!

Sage was playing in her corner and then was quiet for about a minute, we go to investigate as to why she is so quiet and this is what we found. She had crawled into her Bumbo that was placed in the cutout space beneath the counter! As you can see, she thinks she is pretty funny :)

Cheers to Daddy!

Apparently, she was ready to have her bottle!

The kids playing with balloons!

Make a wish!

Opening her present

She started crying when she saw Brad with the hat on his head! It was pretty funny!

Not quite sure about this balloon

I think Sage is ready for bed! Too much partying for her!

Here's a little video of Sage walking! She just loves to walk everywhere!!

Brad’s Relay Run

Brad decided to run again in the Cascade Lakes Relay, which is the same one he did last year on his 30th Birthday. Our friends Bree and Sean, weren’t able to do it this year as they are expecting the arrival of their baby girl any day now!! However, Brad did rope in his buddy John to run this year with him!

They left Thursday afternoon and started their portion of the run on Friday around 1pm. They arrived in Bend on Saturday at the finish line at 5:30pm! Brad did great on all 3 of his legs (his turn to run in the race).

Genny and I drove down that Saturday morning to get there in plenty of time to cheer on our husbands! We are so proud of them and their accomplishment!! They did amazing, especially during this heat!

This picture is priceless!! Sage never falls asleep like this with anyone, I tried to be sneaky to get a picture!

Here they come!!

Date Night, Birthdays and More…

Last Friday, Brad surprised me with getting a babysitter and taking me out on a date with dinner and a movie (Awww!!). We had SO much fun and it was exactly what we needed; although, it is SO hard to be away from Sage. Funny how life changes like that.

This is how we start to look if we don't take a night away every once in a while- hehe!

As August approaches, we have a lot of birthdays to celebrate. First up is Wyatt’s 2nd Birthday on July 27th. Nick and Alicia threw a Cars themed party and it was elaborate! Everything from the food to the party favors to the cake was Cars themed. Since we joke how Wyatt and Sage are boyfriend and girlfriend, Alicia’s mom, Jean, made Sage a very special shirt for her to wear. It is a picture of Sally (the “girl” car in the movie- and is Lighting McQueen’s (the boy car) girlfriend) It was soooo cute!! We tried to get lots of pictures of them together! After the party, the kids were pretty dirty from playing that we gave them a bath together! It was the first bath that Sage has taken with anyone, and it was a boy! Sage had fun watching Wyatt rule the bathtub!!
These two are the cutest!!!

Sage is walking ALL THE TIME!! She loves this new freedom and we’ve been pretty impressed with her ability to get around. She understands when there is a transition from floor to carpet, or if there is a little ledge. She goes slow and takes her time! We’ve been trying to have her walk more with shoes, so that she can walk when we go places.
She always gives Baby kisses! Too cute!

Nick had a pool party to celebrate his birthday this past week. Sage was NOT a fan of the pool, which was kind of a bummer, because we really wanted her to have fun swimming.

By the look on her face, I think we traumatized her! haha!
