Was That An April Fool’s Joke? (Week 18)

As of lately, Brad and I feel like our life has turned into a sitcom. We check around often to see if there are camera’s catching our reactions to things...but turns out, no. Okay, so maybe I’m exaggerating a little :) Ever since Friday, it seems that just laughing at some of our situations is the best way to not get overwhelmed with it all! I won’t go into every detail that keeps us laughing, rather than crying or getting frustrated, but the icing on the cake came during our third doctor appointment on Monday.

Brad and I are getting the routine down for each appointment. We had more questions this time for our doctor and I’m sure as the time progresses we’ll have even more. Towards the end of our appointment, our doctor checks our chart and looks closely at our due date. We hear her mutter to herself, “Oh, you guys are due September 5th”. Okay, we don’t expect our doctor who has many patients to remember every detail of our situation. We confirm that yes indeed, we are due on September 5th. She then replies with “Oh, did I tell you guys I’ll be on my vacation travelling in Russia during that time!?” Brad’s response was “Yeah!” and my response was “No!” Did my pregnancy brain forget that our doctor would be on vacation during our due date?!!? I look at Brad puzzled, he looks at me and then goes “Uh...no wait, we didn’t know that!”

She confirms that she’ll be leaving the day we are due to head off to Russia! But not to worry, because I could be early and she’ll be here to deliver or one of the other three doctors will be available when she is gone. As Brad and I walk away, we replay the conversation again and can’t stop laughing. Of course, OUR doctor, the one we researched for months for, the one we really like, decides to take her Russian adventure when we are due! Dr. Murray recommended that we alternate our appointments with the other doctors to get to know them. So we take the advice and plan out the remainder of our appointments for our entire pregnancy. Our last appointment to schedule, falls on our due date, September 5th, which naturally, as the receptionist so kindly told us, they are closed since it’s Labor Day. I don’t think she liked us much after that, because we just burst into laughter and muttered under our breath, “Of course...”

But in all seriousness, we feel pretty confident with the other three doctors we’ll get to know. We did go home and read all their bio’s that night :)

Baby Update:
We are at 18 weeks! Little Nugget is the size of a Sweet Potato (aw!). Baby has become amazingly mobile, passing the hours yawning, hiccupping, rolling, twisting, kicking, punching, sucking and swallowing…of course, I haven’t felt any of that quite yet! We can’t wait for that to happen!

Not for Sale

While I was sick, Brad worked so hard to get our place ready for sale, he bleached all of our doors and window frames, then touched up painting all the white floor boards, doors, door and window frames, etc. He painted the bathroom and our guest bedroom white (per our Realtors suggestion). It was a long process. While he was touching up, my job was to de-clutter and organized. And I took this task pretty seriously...some of you may say I was “nesting” a bit...and I probably was or just purely motivated to sell this condo once we listed it on Monday (today). Every closet, cabinet, and drawer is well organized, thanks to my few trips to The Container Store!

Well.......long story short....it turns out, because of other units on a short sale in our complex and the value of our place, our Realtor advised us to not list it just quite yet. So, all that hard work and thinking positively sort of slapped us in the face....at least, that’s how we feel. It’s been discouraging to want to be out of this place now for well over a year and especially when we thought we were going about it in a smart way. BUT...Brad and I have so much to be thankful for. So although the situation is disappointing and heartbreaking, we have a super clean and cute little condo that will fit a family of 3 and a dog comfortably. We have our little one on the way, our love, our health and supportive family and friends that remind us how precious life is. Although we can’t have what we want now, we know in time it will come! Time to focus on Baby Fetrow’s arrival!

PS. Anyone want to help re-paint our guest bedroom into a nursery! Haha! :)

A Weekend in Bend (Week 17)

Let's start with baby update!

Baby Update:
Last week was probably the roughest I had during this entire pregnancy. On Wednesday I started not feeling well about mid morning, by 3pm, I was leaving work with a fever. Two hours later, I had a bad sore throat. The next morning I woke up with a swollen throat (I couldn’t even eat!) and still had a fever. Brad took me to the doctor and thankful to hear that I didn’t have strep throat! I got some medicine and spent the next two days resting and getting better.

Being sick and pregnant was not fun to go through. I was worried a lot about the baby because I wasn’t eating as much as I should, but the doctor assured me that the baby is perfectly fine and not affected from my illness. Brad, as always, was super great with taking care of me, running to the store, getting my medicine, all while painting and fixing up our condo last week! Thank you my sweet! :)

Other than being sick, things have been going well! My appetite is somewhat improving. I'm trying my best to incorporate protein into my diet.

The baby bump has made an appearance!!! YAY!! I’ve gotten a few requests for pictures, so I’ll start posting pictures of the belly. It will be fun to see the belly grow as time passes!

We have our third doctor’s appt next Monday and our fetal anatomy ultra sound next Tuesday. This is the ultra sound where measurements are taken to make sure baby is growing appropriately. They’ll make sure that all the organs and umbilical cord are developing normally, and the amniotic fluid levels, the location of the placenta and the fetal heart rate are all normal.

This past weekend we headed to Bend with a group of friends to celebrate Sam’s 30th Birthday! We had a good time just hanging out, enjoying the snow and eating yummy food! Here are a few pictures from the weekend!

It's a Mystery

This past weekend, we drove down to Medford to celebrate Lynda’s 60th Birthday! We planned a Murder Mystery party for her that was set in the 70s! It was a lot of fun! I was the host as Brad and I have done a Murder Mystery before and know what is involved. Everyone was in character and took this Murder Mystery pretty seriously, which made it a lot of fun!

Baby Update:
Another little “mystery” in our life is what will our little one be!?!? A boy or a girl!? Well...good news is, you’ll all find out when we do! Bad news is, you’ll all find out when we do-which is when the baby is due!!! It’s been fun to hear peoples responses when we say we don’t want to find out. “How can you wait that long?” “I would need to know, I’m not that patient” “How are you going to buy clothes” “How will you decorate your nursery!?”

Brad and I talked about this before we even got pregnant and it was originally Brad’s idea not to find out. But why am I surprised? He was the one who insisted we don’t see each other before our wedding ceremony! He likes to be surprised :) At first, I didn’t know if I could do it, but then after I thought about it, I really liked Brad’s idea. So to answer the questions- am I that patient...yes and no. When we see an ultra sound of little nugget that’s when our patience is tested. It would be so fun to just know what we are looking at! As far as decorating the nursery, we’ve decided on a neutral theme and colors as we are in the process of selling our condo. And the clothing issue, well...how much fun is it to shop for cute little boy or girl clothes!! And according to Brad, baby clothes with Duck’s on them is never a bad thing! :)

The Sweetest Sound (Week 15)

This past week we had our second doctor’s appointment where we finally got to hear the heartbeat!! It was pretty exciting to finally “hear” our little one. I wish we could hear it all the time!

Baby and I are doing great! I’m feeling pretty good although I still have trouble finding certain things to eat. We have noticed that I go through phases of certain foods and it changes each week. This past week all I wanted to eat was waffles and syrup!
My phases have included: toasted bagels with chocolate milk, cinnamon toast crunch, macaroni and cheese (this lasted a good 4 weeks), donuts, fruit snacks and chips! Oh…and lots of milk!! I can drink a gallon of milk in 4 days!
I’ve also felt pretty tired, which I’m not really used to, since I wasn’t that tired during my first trimester.

The baby is 4 inches long and is beginning to grow eyebrows and eyelashes. Although baby's eyes are sealed shut, little one is now able to sense light!

Brad was out of town this weekend down in LA for the PAC-10 Basketball Tournament and I took advantage of that to drive down to Eugene to visit my good friend Jeanette who has a three week old baby!

Brad got back in time for Sunday’s annual Shamrock Run. Just like last year, he ran with Jim, Joe and Maureen Weber and after, we enjoyed a delicious donut from VooDoo Donuts!

We're Pregnant!!! (Week 14)

As most of you all know, Brad and I are expecting! We are over the moon excited!! Today marks the 14th week of our pregnancy and our Second Trimester!!! Woo Hoo!

We decided to wait to blog about it until we reached our second trimester. Mostly it was my decision, Brad would have told the world the night we found out. The chances of miscarriage drop significantly and we have now had two ultra sounds to conclude that little baby is perfectly healthy and growing!

With the new little addition on its way, it only made sense to include little punkin in our blog, since I’m assuming that’s all we’ll want to talk about and that’s all you’ll care to know about, we aren’t really that exciting-haha! We decided to change our blog name to be The Fetrow Family.

I’ll try to recap the past 12 weeks in a few short paragraphs (most of you all know this, but this is to document for ourselves as well!)
Brad and I found out we were pregnant on December 28th. I took three tests and still called my doctor to be sure, only to receive the response “Honey, if you took three tests, then you are pregnant!”

Brad was doing cartwheels and squealing like a girl (okay, not really!) but he was so excited. And so was I! We’ve been trying for several months to get pregnant and when you finally see that positive sign, it’s still a shock and hard to believe! Baby is due Sept. 5th! But it is possible the baby will make its way into this world on 9/10/11 :) The next day, I came home to flowers and a card :)


For the next 6 weeks from that exciting day, I felt like yuck! I had some serious nausea, but luckily, I bypassed the physical part of getting sick. I struggled most of the time to find something I could eat or that sounded good. This was especially fun for Brad, who would offer up many suggestions and when I select something that sounded good to eat, by the time he made it and served me, my mind had changed. I got a lot of practice of giving him a cute smile, a kiss and apologizing and then blaming it on the baby!

My only real symptoms were nausea, food aversions, going to the bathroom every 5 minutes, and that’s about it. I was never really tired or exhausted. But I did enjoy relaxing each night after work and taking it easy on the weekends.

A Night for Charity

Brad and I attended the American Cancer Society Fundraiser the last weekend of February. We attended to support our good friend Kelly, who is on the Board and Kelly's mom Barb, who is the Event Director for the Portland Chapter and planned the entire evening.

We planned on attending the after party for the Fundraiser, but at the last minute, a table became available and Barb/Kelly invited us to have dinner and we all enjoyed the entire evening. We even participated in the live Auction. :)

Dad's Visit

A few weekends ago, my dad came out to visit all of us! He had not been out to Portland since our wedding, so it was fun to have him back.

On Friday night, Travis, Tracey and Dad met Brad and I at Big Al’s, where I work. We had dinner, showed him around and spent a good part of the night playing almost every arcade game!
Saturday, the men went golfing and then we all met up for dinner at Red Robin :) and then went to a Winterhawks game. It was a lot of fun. I’d never been to a hockey game and it provided great entertainment.

Sunday we just hung out, had some dinner and played some games! It was great to see dad, and can’t wait to see him again, come September :)

Birthday / Whidbey Weekend!

The whole month of January seemed like a whirl-wind for us. After we got back from the Arizona trip, we had one night at home before we took off for another weekend getaway to Whidbey Island, WA. The following week, my mom visited and we were able to finally celebrate Christmas. The last week of January, we decided to just take it easy and relax, since we’ve been on the go!

I had a great birthday overall. I got into work and my desk was completely decorated with balloons and flowers! Thanks to Stephanie and Amanda!


We were headed up to Whidbey Island, WA that evening to have a fun friend get-away weekend! Once we got up there, I was surprised by a little birthday celebration that my friends put together! It was super sweet and I had a great time celebrating my 29th birthday! I got a lot of fun and neat gifts! So thanks friends for making it special! Can’t believe this is my last year in my twenties! Crazy to me, since I still feel at times like I’m in my early twenties- don’t we all I suppose :)

We spent the weekend creating fun memories, playing an abundance of games, dancing to Michael Jackson on the Wii, excellent food, a delicious crab fest, reading by the fire, shopping in the harbor towns and of course, lots of good wine and beer :)

We had a wonderful time! Thank you to Genny and John for inviting us up and can’t wait to do it again :)
